Certainly not with my bare hands.  

The first one I picked up with a plastic bag, the second one I used leather 
gloves to put it in the bag.

My neighbor has been having problems with rats and put some poison bait out 
under his house. It is possible that the raccoons got either the bat, or one of 
the rats.
