tamron made a 60-300mm SP lens the might fit your bill. tokina made a real nice 100-300 f4 that's somewhat hard to find. I believe it was available with a fixed Pentax KA mount ( the tamron uses mount adapters ).
Pentax also made a few 100-300mm lenses in the F and FA series. I don't know if those are any good or not. -- J.C. The important question is "why are you losing shots?". If you're shooting outdoors, you generally don't need to go from 4 to 2.8, especially at the long end.
