tamron made a 60-300mm SP lens the might fit your bill.
tokina made a real nice 100-300 f4 that's somewhat
hard to find. I believe it was available with a fixed
Pentax KA mount ( the tamron uses mount adapters ).

Pentax also made a few 100-300mm lenses in the F
and FA series. I don't know if those are any good
or not.

200 to 250 would be noticeable but not a huge difference.

The important question is "why are you losing shots?".  If you're shooting
outdoors, you generally don't need to go from 4 to 2.8, especially at the
long end. Depth of field is pretty shallow too, remember Igor commenting on
how shallow my depth of field was at 135/2.8

It sounds to me that what you need is a bigma, the Sigma 50-500. It has a
few shortcomings, but is arguably in  class by itself.  I tried to find a
sharper faster 500mm prime that cost less money, but couldn't.
