Thanks, Bob! I do like the idea of a fast prime... the 50/1.4, or 77/1.8 come to mind... freezing the action was a challenge. The floor exercises were a good place to get some shots, since they did stop moving from time time to "pose".
I thought the gym she usually practices in was dim, but the one hosting the meet was far worse! And, from what I've seen, the local high school teams all practice at the privately-owned gyms - sadly, I don't even think the high schools have this equipment anymore. Ah well... at least I know what I'm up against, should she stick with it! -c On Mon, Jan 10, 2011 at 12:09 PM, Bob Sullivan <[email protected]> wrote: > Christine, > > Great pictures, made me smile! > My daughter competed in Gymnastics thru 12th grade. > The highschool gyms are dark and I used ISO 800 film at 800 and 1600. > The club environments are just as dark, being run on a shoestring. > (Because of the mats and equipment, gymnastics went in the oldest, > dimmest high school gym where it could be left up all the time.) > You'll have to do pre-focusing on spots for shots. > > Having a 50-135/2.8 is great and shake reduction would have been a god send. > A fast prime or two would be good along with a monopod for sure. > Compared to film, noise was not a problem for you, but I like Lightroom. > > I liked your shots of warm-up and individual tricks. > Floor exercise is my favorite place to get nice pictures of the girls. > And I enjoyed your capturing of them sitting and watching together. > There is a lot of that for the parents as well. > > Regards, Bob S. > > On Mon, Jan 10, 2011 at 8:46 AM, Christine Nielsen <[email protected]> wrote: >> So... yesterday, my daughter competed in her first gymnastics meet. >> And (please pardon the bragging..), she did very well.
