Worked the North American International Auto Show for the Times -- 13 hours Monday and 10 hours Tuesday. I was assured that I was only there as a writer to provide real-time coverage on the Times "Wheels" web blog -- which I did. So I brought only my Panasonic point and shoot, because I didn't want to be encumbered with a camera I didn't need. So of course they asked me to shoot some photos when they couldn't find the shooter they had hired. They ended up using three of my pics. But since I had my Panny in hand, I shot a few other things.
You'll find a great angle on the Ferrari 428 here and a nice view of the R8. Other things of minor interest include Smart's electric bicycle, Range Rover's new Evoque (dont't know why they dropped the rear of the roof -- style over substance, Wikispeed's 100-mpg gas engine four-seater, the new Civic Concept, Kea's KV7 concept van (which is supposed to be a tribute to 70s custom vans- not, but a nice vehicle), the Mach 7, the new Chrysler 300, and the Mercedes E-Cell electric gullwing -- in a horrible shade of yellow that hurt my eyes. Next year I'm bringing a real camera. The K-5 hanging around my neck isn't all that much more cumbersome than the panny in my pocket.
