This is a bit like our September. Once the power came back on, everything seemed pretty much fine on the surface. For a week or two we had to crap in a bucket and boil our water but other than that life seemed to be "as usual." I will mention that the sound of a Huey or two flying around is surprisingly reassuring, even if you don't personally need them. > We are planning on taking it in turns to go into the city and volunteer in > recovery efforts in coming days, as one of us will always need to be here > with the kids, as we really want to help. This is one thing that frustrated me, the pressure to get back to work prevented me from getting out and helping the worst-affected suburbs on the other side of town. It didn't help that I was going crazy being stuck at home by myself :) > The thing is though, whilst so much media attention is on Brisbane, with it > being the state capital, there are many other towns since Christmas that > have been in dire straits (such as Rockhampton/Emerald where my > mother/family live), and the rainfall that we have been experiencing has now > moved southward and will be creating havoc in NSW, VIC and SA now. It's amazing how long a time period these floods have been covering. Our country is so small and mountainous that a flood will dissipate within a few days.
