Thanks to everyone who commented. Ecke: it is more or less strait out of the camera, uncropped. I had to lighten up the bottom half (gradient filter in lightroom), tweak contrast & color balance a bit.
As for the dark one - it was not so dark out of the camera. I like darkness (sometimes too much).
