Well, since forever we've had no statutory holiday between New Year's and Easter. Since each province has a certain number of days they're allowed to designate as statutory holidays, Ontario has designated a day in February as "Family Day". It's meaningless, of course, just an excuse to put a long weekend in the midst of winter.
