As I remarked the last time this topic came up, it rather depends on whether you look "at" the viewfinder, or "through" it. I tend to look through the viewfinder, so I often don't see things in the image that would be distracting in the eventual presentation (the classic "tree growing out of somebody's head" is an extreme example of this).
