Boris,

I agree with others, that Galia did it better!
I hope you don't mind that conclusion.
:-)

I think for both shots (but more so for yours), - it the brightness
of the background (OOF flowers) that plays the [distracting] role.

With your shot, it might be hard to change anything (because of lack of
the spatial between the foreground and the background),
but it might be done using a mask in Photoshop with Galia's shot.
In that shot, I would try to darken the background slightly.
This would make the front, in focus, flowers to "stand out" more.
Also, I'd play with the contrast and sharpness, - that may or may not be
able to help to achieve that. Actually, "presence" in Lightroom may
provide a good handle on that (for both shots).

Nope, I don't mind that Galia did better. Why would I? I'd rather she kept that way despite my earnest attempts to produce good photos.

I don't have Photoshop but I hear what you're saying (to the best of my hearing ability). You see, Igor, I still want to learn how to take pictures with my camera. To that end, what you suggest is valid, but it kind of defeats the purpose of whole exercise of mine.

I will see if I can implement what you suggested in LR, but it may be not all that easy or even possible.

And, like I said, I am actually quite glad that Galia outdid me. That's really good news.
