A salutary tale that might save someone time and effort :-)

You know how car breakdown mechanics will naturally check the fuel tank
first before going on to find out why the engine won't start, right ?
Well here's an interesting one....

Canon S9000 which has been going fine for years, never had a head clog.

Stef goes to print out some course work and the print comes off pink!
Hmm, looks like a clog on one of the inks. I do a head test print and
sure enough not only is there a few jest blocked on the photo cyan, the
whole damned colour is blocked! I take out the ink tank and it's brand
new, Stefan had recently fitted it after the last photo cyan ran out.

I place it back in, do another test. Nothing. I do a couple of deep
cleans and try again. Aha, about half the jets on that colour come back.
More deep cleans, another test. This time nothing out of the photo cyan.
I'm baffled but what the heck. Out come all the inks, off comes the head
(easy job on the S9000). Into a soapy sink it goes. We use 3rd party
inks and to be honest I was wondering when the first ever clog would
happen. I put it down to penny pinching.

Ten minutes later I'm drying the head and back in it goes, 5 colours and
the black. Clean, test print. Half the jets on photo cyan are back. Two
deep cleans, test. The jets are gone again! Now I'm very baffled. I pull
the photo cyan out and take it to the sink and squeeze it. Drops of
bright ink dribble out and then -

Can you guess what the problem was?

Answer soon :)
