Hi all!
Just wanted to give a heads-up to the San Francisco Bay-area contingent
that I'll be in the area near the end of the month. Seems a friend mine
who lives out there is hosting an event at the Olympic Club and has
decided to hire me to come out and take photos and possibly make some
connections while I'm there. :-D They're covering the travel and
putting me up for the majority of my stay there. Most likely, they'd be
happy to put me up for the duration of my stay there, but I really don't
want to be an imposition on them -- being a houseguest for more than
three days.
Initially, it worked out that I'd be flying in on the 23rd, and out on
the 27th. With the events that I'd be covering, that wouldn't leave a
whole lot of time to do any pleasure shooting, or possibly meet up with
the Bay Area PDML'ers. But, as it turns out, I could have initially
saved the person some money if I'd been willing to stay out there a
couple of days longer using their Southwest Rapid Rewards program. At
the time, I hadn't really considered the possibility of bunking down
somewhere else for the remainder of my trip -- thus, saving my friend a
little money, as well as not violating the three-day houseguest/fish
maxim, while allowing me to stay in the area and take advantage of an
opportunity I may never get again to shoot the beautiful Bay Area scenery.
Larry suggested that I post word here to the list ASAP, so as to let
everyone know the situation in case anyone had any ideas that might have
an impact on the arrangements. I've already contacted the person
regarding possibly changing the date of my return flight -- which she
said she'd be happy to check on tomorrow and let me know ASAP. She
seems pretty confident that it won't be a problem at all -- that she'd
bought the original ticket at the cheapest rate, which often means they
won't "refund" the price, but will happily credit it to future flights,
which she is certain to use.
In any event -- here's my situation as things stand now. I'm scheduled
to fly in on the 23rd, and have lodging from then until the 27th. If
I'm going to stay for another couple of days, I'll need a place to crash
on the 27th and 28th, and a ride to the airport (OAK) on the 29th. Is
there anyone, or any combination of folks, from the list in the area who
would be willing and able to accommodate me and tolerate my presence for
that duration?
I'm no hothouse flower, so I don't require any particularly posh
arrangements. A place to rest my weary head at night and attend to
matters of personal hygiene would be sufficient. I do smoke, but am
respectful of the wishes of those whom I happen to be around, so I'd be
more than happy to "take it outside" -- assuming there's a place where
that's permitted.
Let me know ASAP if there's any person/people who can accommodate a
haggard traveler for a couple of nights and unceremoniously dump him at
the airport.
