I have much of the book layout and design done. I completed the
agonizing search for fonts a few weeks ago - only to discover later
that, though the main font had bold, italic and italic-bold options,
but *didn't* have sufficient foreign language characters (the Øksne's
and Kne~evic-Strika's of the world proved problematic). I ended up
using font design software to make the appropriate characters and
insert them into the main character set.

I wonder if this would have worked for you in blurb..

I wrote stuff in MS word in the font of my choice recently when I wanted to give Jostein credit for a photo of me. So I went to his page and cut and pasted his name into my MS word document and it did it correctly and kept the font style.
Maybe I was just lucky :-)

But seriously, I'd love to design a font of my own... is there any freeware on the web to help with that?

My idea was to type THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPS OVER THE LAZY DOG in Photoshop Elements in a font I kinda like but wanted to improve upon with stretching, twisting, etc... and have it added to my font choices, and have the program pick up the stray characters.. is that basically how you can do it?
