A recap for those who aren't complete nerds: The strict SD spec only allows for cards of up to 2GB in size. That's why we have SDHC - it's an extension to the SD spec that allows for cards larger than 2GB (up to 32GB - beyond that you need SDXC, which allows for cards up to 2TB). You can use SD cards in an SDHC-capable device, but not vice-versa.
There's some unfortunate confusion caused by the fact that there's a way to extend the SD spec to allow cards of up to 4GB capacity. Even worse - there's more than one way to do it (shades of Larry Wall ...), and these extensions to the SD spec generally aren't compatible with SDHC. Using 4GB "SD" cards is a bit of a gamble; some of these don't work in anything except readers from a single manufacturer (not even standard SD readers, let alone cameras).
