Paul, Ken, JAck, Walt, Bruce, Jeff ...

I (now) see what you mean about the staircase... I think it is all there in the original but the original is very dark at the bottom and strongly tilted... I cropped the bottom because of a distracting something.. looking at the raw file I cant make out the bottom
at the moment but I'll work on it...

(Walt - I didn't mean to compare it to the first other than it was another shot in the station... )

Maybe I'll put a straight copy of the original on smugmug in an unlisted area and send it you lot off list - after I do Take 3 :-)

Jack, the light and haziness of the first , and the collar with the newspaper suit me... the sadness I dont like just comes from the homeless people asleep at the other end of the bench. when I took the shot, looking through the viewfinder, I didn't see them other than people sitting the bench.. that is , I couldn't make them out as other than forms, though I knew
they must be people. Melancholy I like :-)

stay tuned for improvements

I completely agree with Jack, here. There was a certain gauziness about the first shot that really complemented it, people notwithstanding.

The more recent shot is lovely, though, and would definitely benefit from being taken on its own terms rather than in comparison to the original.

Cleaner image than the first. Actually, the flatter somewhat hazy first image created a possibly unintended melancholy mood. "Take 2" includes more definition and order, but is so distractingly "incomplete." :)

I used the perspective tool to straighten the verticals of
the window frames... shot at 1600 f5.6 1/750.

Those windows are painted with gilt. I like this one
better than the first one I showed you all... not so sad.
