I use focus selection all the time. The select switch become easy to use with practice. Even using select, I don't think I could properly place the selection point on a model's eye with the camera on a tripod. I never shoot on a tripod in the studio when working with a model. It makes spontaneous framing impossible. With the speed of flash exposures, I find it totally unnecessary.
