Nice Richard,
I was born and brought up within a few miles of RAF Kinloss, and the sounds
of MERLIN engines. Avro Lancaster's, York's, Neptune's, Shackleton's and
more. RAF Kinloss air show was a must each year.

One thing that I will never forget was in 1953. I was almost 6, and were
standing overlooking the Cromarty Firth, awaiting the arrival of HM the
Queen in RY Britannia. In she came at the head of the Home Fleet, the last
of the great Battleships, AC Carriers and the works. How I wish I'd had a
camera.

I'm ex RAF, and served 7 of 12 years at RAF Benson in Oxfordshire. In
1980, we moved to a new quarter on the arrival of our second child. As it
overlooked the dispersal area, it was quite usual to see the RAF Battle of
Britain Memorial Flight drop in when filming took place, or they were due at
the International Air Tattoo at Newbury. I was often 'volunteered' for duty
at the RAF Abingdon Show, where the Sea Fury performed. Also saw it twice
at Weston Super Mud and the RAF Locking Show, the power dive and climb with
the roll out at the top of the loop was incredible,. the vortex from the
wingtips!!!
Anyway, enough nostalgia. I hope I might make the Abbotsford Air show this
year, I've missed three since arriving in Canada.
James
