Oh okay thanks Ann I am not up on my bird names .. Yeah he was busy having
fun with the tree and well actually that is how we spotted him. I kept
hearing him while taking pictures of the Turtles and looked up and spotted
him.

ah - one or two of your photos is of  the backside of a Northern Flicker  I
just typoed...
nothing to do with the turtles..  
You called him just a woodpecker..  and a flicker is a woodpecker of sorts.
That red band is one of the key features.

As for the turtles -- yes three on a log.. I had not even seen the other
one...
