I like these, but anything shot in minimal light is going to be a compromise. The eye reflections can be fixed in PS, but it's a lot of work. But the flash is your friend when shooting birds. Used as fill, it's very helpful because you're frequently shooting up toward the sky when photographing birds, so backlit is common.
