preferences aside, you said "The only noticeable difference I see between your re-do and my original is the lightening of side shadow on the boulder" -- and i see:

- lightening of the shadows overall (foliage, flower eyes, shadows in top-side moss, as well as the dark side of rock)
- slight desaturation of the moss
- sharpening and lightening make detail more visible overall (e.g. easier to distinguish dark flowers against dark side of rock)

i looked at it on three displays on two different computers to rule out display wonkiness
