A little over four years ago, I upgraded my FZ20 with an FZ50. For a point&shoot it was a great camera. It handled like an SLR, and in decent light had great Image Quality. We were going to a friend's house for a party, they have cats, and Zab's allergic so rather than picking some stuff up at her house on the way, she dropped me off and ran her errand so I'd have more time to visit before she had to leave. Rather than bringing the camera gear in, I just left it in the trunk of the car. To shorten a long story, her car was stolen from in front of her house, with my bag of camera gear in the trunk. A few days later we got the car back, minus wheels, stereo, camera gear, her purse etc. Rather than replace the FZ50, I decided to spend a few more bucks and pick up a cheap DSLR to last me a couple of years until the performance I wanted would be affordable. The kit lens was a very similar field of view to the Series 1 28-105 that I'd used so much over the previous 10 years, so I didn't expect that I'd even need to buy more than one or two more lenses. It only took one evening of trying to photograph blues dancing for me to order a 31/1.8.
