I'll bet that was the plan when the first Limited lens appeared.

Whether they think that's a good market strategy *now* is the determining
factor. The death of the Olympus OM line is an ominous sign about viability
of this kind of purist camera. Pentax is probably (wisely) putting their
R&D money into a digital SLR. If I were a betting man, my money would be
on "no camera to match the Limited lenses" now :(

Much as I'd love to have such a camera myself, I'd definitely vote no if
I were on Pentax's board of directors (but if I did approve one, it'd be
a madern version of the MX, not the LX, because I'm a *purer* purist than
the rest of you! No wimpy auto exposure on *my* retro SLR!)

I don't think a rangefinder is a possibility at all, personally.
