Let me try to clarify what I meant here. You see, Ann, in the original image, the eye goes along the "parade of black posts" as you put it and reaches the red boxes on the background. Now what? Looks like these boxes are for vending the newspapers or may be they are something else. I couldn't tell.

Then there is a woman with the red umbrella who is obviously the main subject, but I fail to connect between the two. It is as if Frank is telling us two visually disconnected stories here.

Again, this is my perception, nothing more and nothing less.

P.S. Having said that I should point out that we hadn't have a WESO for a long time now... WESO - workshop every so often - when people would (with permission of course) offer their versions of the image to the author.
