I am happy that you enjoyed the second one more; as that one also
seems to tell me more.

In fact, I was aware of those "dividers" and I have decided to leave them alone.
My reasoning was to create a sense of depth; trying to isolate the
objectified flowers amongst other things.
That is to say, they should not to be seen like a museum specimen
(with no distracting elements).
The first, square composition was an attempt at the contrary direction.

So, "the busy background" and "the distracting foreground elements"
were intentional... to a degree :)

In the end, I do benefit a lot by reading your comments and suggestions.
