John,
5 hours driving at the 35 mph speed limit is 245 miles of travel.
Figure what your 1st mile marker is and add 245 miles per day.
Regards, Bob S.
Yeah, that's what I meant about doing it the old fashioned way.
I added the number of miles I want to drive to the mile marker for the
previous night's stop giving me my new target mile marker - making
allowance for the mile marker numbers restarting when I leave Skyline
Drive.
Looked up the locations of the campgrounds and found the ones closest to
the target mile marker.
Works out to about 5 days - approximately 275 mi, 170 mi, 150 mi, 170
mi, 370 mi. I only drive 25 miles on Skyline Drive the first day, 60
miles on the parkway the last day; it's 250 miles up, 310 miles back.
Still have to plan out my fuel stops. I expect I'll go off the Parkway
for those. The park concessions always have higher prices.
I know for certain I'll gas up at Front Royal before starting down
Skyline Drive. Probably get off again somewhere around Roanoke.
