aDSL isn't always so solid; i've had aDSL from Qwest (was US West, soon CenturyLink) for almost 12 years; it's cheap, but Qwest recently piggy-backed fiber optic back-end connections onto the same local circuitry and in the process basically ruined regular aDSL; there's no hope for improvement unless i pay a lot more for the fiber connection (and lose the option to use the line with the ISP of my choice)
