That's the power zoom version, it's supposed to be very nice
optically, if a but heavy and it "power zooms"...
It only power zooms if you have the toggle switch in the right (?)
position and if your camera body supports the option. This was my
first modern lens (i.e., one that supported autofocus etc.), I bought
it along with my upgrade from an ME-Super to a PZ-1p, and I quite
liked it. And I found the power zoom handy now and then but mostly
had it switched off.

WHen I first looked at it I didn't know what that little switch was
for... I saw there was a toggle but no clue about it... not sure
what setting ws on it when I took Ashley's photo jsut a bit ago.

The *ist -D series don't support Power Zoom. If the power contacts are
missing, the power zoom reverts to manual zoom operation. Well at least
I think it does.
