Folks, In case anyone is interested in doing something similar, I just got my LX back from Pentax UK afer they had fixed a few problems and given it a CLA. The camera is fairly old (serial number is 525xxxx) and was starting to seriously suffer from sticky mirror. Also the exposure compensation dial could be turned in the 1/2x..1/4x direction without pressing the lock button first (tho not the other way). I've been putting off a CLA for ages but the final straw was a few misaligned frames on the last roll of film so off it went with a list of all these problems.
I sent it off on 14th Feb (Thurs), called them up the following Monday by which time they had inspected it and prepared an estimate (which arrived in the post Tuesday). I just got it back today so it's been gone a fortnight. Total cost was 68.98 to fix all that bother, to clean and 'calibrate and return to manufacturers specifications'. That price includes 20% discount for being a member of Pentax User (http://www.pentaxuser.co.uk/). I've just been playing with it and I can say the sticky mirror is definitely gone, the exposure compensation lock locks and the winding mechanism feels much smoother. Going put a roll of Provia F thro it now and see if it's behaving on the frame spacing and everything else. So far I am pretty satisfied - 70 quid is not a bad price to pay to get the old girl back to normal IMHO. Chris - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
