thanks for the thought; that is not a big issue in this case -- i am mainly shooting the "scene in between": people, interactions, bikes, street art, that sort of thing

this is an event distributed over 22 venues on a few blocks, so there is lots of milling about on the streets, and only some of the music interests me; it just happens to be at my doorstep, so i get a free pass for having to deal with it for 4 days whether i want to or not; photographing the scene fits with my long-standing practice of documenting my neighborhood

on the subject you raise, i don't shoot performances much in general, especially performances i am really enjoying; i am very good at engaging with music i like; i sometimes take my camera (or iPhone) out to get a momento, but then put it away and that's that; there have been times, though, when photography has heightened my appreciation for something i am experiencing
