Larry, I'd would boost the contrast (of the front face of the rock) in both (the contrast appears to be slightly higher in the B&W), and then would look again. I'd expect that I'd choose the color version, despite the reference to A.A. that other people mentioned.
As somebody ahs already pointed out, some reachness of texture is lost in the B&W conversion.
