After seeing Pats pictures with the halogen lighting and some research I found home depot has several 500 and 1000w ( dual lamp ) halogen lights on tripod stands, the blubs are GE t3 type and are quartz halogen 2000hr life but the colour temp is 3000 to 3250 depending on bulb life. I know other bulbs are available and considering the cost of $80 cad for a 1000 w lamp on 7ft stand it seems like an affordable compromise to smith victor or other direct lighting.
