Ouch- best of luck to your son. I know the feeling,

I did something similar, but not quite as serious.
I fell on my back on frozen soil, and pretty much pulverized my T9 vertebra.
The doc explained that if I was going to mash a vertebra, it was a good choice,
as it had a pair of ribs to stabilize it. At first, all they fed me was jello,
and then had the nerve to get upset that I wasn't having a bowel movement.
(Didn't recall when I had my last bowel movement, they were afraid my
intestines were paralyzed.) Still won't touch jello. It healed up well, and I'm
about half an inch shorter now.

Here's hoping for a good outcome.

Good luck to you all,
Mike
