2.6x more on fuel consumption cannot be a bad thing! :-) Buying the Prius after driving the Freelander for a few years netted a very similar improvement in fuel economy, about 2.3x. Never mind service costs... That went down by well over 80%. I've never spent more than US $190 for a Prius service, and generally speaking it's more like US $75.
