One elbow on the back of the stool, and one on the bar, with a couple of
cocktails in my system -- just to steady the hand, you understand. ;-)
1/30 is about as long an exposure as I'll try hand-held without some
kind of bracing.
As for the nifty fifty's popularity, judging by how long it took me to
find one locally, there's definitely a demand for them. I wish there
were some hope for a renaissance in affordable, manual primes with high
quality optics. I think it would make better photographers out of
people like me, and provide another range of options for those just
getting started in photography who are willing to work a little harder
to get good photos. Alas . . .
Thanks again!

You did really well to get that image sharpness at 1/30th sec, Walt.
You must have been really well braced, and/or with zero caffeine in
your blood. :-)
The nifty fifty is a fine piece of glass, even finer since they're now
portrait-length on APS-C. I wonder if they'll ever regain popularity?

Many thanks, Bruce.
It doesn't normally strip my EXIF data, and I'm not sure why it did
in this instance. Photoshop preserved it in the color version, but
for some reason, stripped it out in the b/w conversion. I don't have
a clue what may have happened. But, I do normally preserve it.
Here it is in color with the data still attached:

A fine portrait, Walt.
Does your workflow intentionally strip EXIF data? I find EXIF to be
enormously useful, but I know some folks are concerned about loss of
privacy.

Hi all,
Well. Having recently laid to rest my mother after a long
struggle, I suddenly find myself with more time on my hands. So,
it seemed like a good time to start participating in the list again.
My re-introductory submission was taken this past Friday night,
when I met up with friends for a few drinks in celebration of my
birthday the day before. I'm not sure what the shot details are on
this one, other than that it was shot with my K-50/1.4 on my K-x.
I'm guessing the aperture setting at roughly 2.8 and the ISO around
800, with no flash. I haven't the foggiest notion what the shutter
speed was, though. Nevertheless . . .

I do love that 50/1.4 and hope to actually learn to use it well
before too long. Comments, critiques, and carrot cake are welcome.
Thanks in advance,
Walt
