Gotta love the granite underpinning of the east coast. It was able to carry the 
shock waves from Mineral, VA, to Maine and down to S.Carolina. If it as 
California, even at that shallow a depth (6 KM) you wouldn't feel it 100 miles 
away because of the millions of years of Redwood tree needles and bark that 
have compacted into the earth.
