Okay, this one should be interesting. Someone posted recently that they
had recalculated some Pentax lens focal lengths to take into account the
upcoming DSLR, bearing in mind that the sensor, whether CCD, CMOS, Foveon
or whatever, is likely to be smaller than the 24X36mm film frame. Exact
mathematics obviously TBA, but assuming a nominal multiplier of 1.5X
normal film-frame focal length, what existing Pentax lens would become
the ideal portrait lens?

My thoughts: a 50mm 1.2 or 1.4 would give effectively ~75mm and both are
cracking good lenses, no? My A*85 suddenly becomes ~127mm which is too
much for me (for portraiture), but wow, a 127mm lens at f1.4 - great
medium sports gear or what! Are there any lenses over 50mm but under
85mm? The 77 Ltd, okay that gives ~115mm, and too much for me. I'm
starting to think 50mm might be good, especially at 1.2!

If not, my Tokina 28-70 2.6/2.8 suddenly becomes my favourite portrait
lens, giving me ~42mm-105mm - a pretty good range for my portraiture.

Obviously this train of thought carries on and applies to...

Best good wide.

Best street lens.

Best telephoto.

Best wide zoom.

Best medium zoom,

Best long zoom.

Cat --->  pigeons.
