Pretty simple:

- I look carefully at backgrounds and edges, when I can, and arrange
my shot to include or exclude what I find distracting.

- If the opportunity and scene allows, I open up the aperture to
isolate the subject of interest. Not always possible or desirable, of
course.

- If the intent requires it, I move position and framing to exclude as
much as possible of the background
