I also have a third party charger that I carry in my camera gear for just such emergencies, which will also run off of a cigarette lighter socket in the car. With three batteries, I've hardly ever needed it, unless I was on a road trip for several days. It's light is red on charging and green on charged, and I was used to the Pentax charger that has a green light when charging and no light when charged
