Do you hear that Pentax??? That is RETARDED and EL STUPIDO!

Tom C.

By acting like a brick, the camera is telling the user there is something wrong with their settings. Setting the lens to the off A position would be considered an advanced user operation. The camera is designed to work primarily with A series and later lenses (hence the lack of an aperture came follower). By defaulting the camera the way they have done it, they have a way of indicating to the user that the lens aperture ring isn't set to what Pentax feels is the optimal operating position (using the control wheel). Remember Tom, the K series lenses ended production almost 30 years ago, and the best Pentax has ever given us is partial comparability with them, and I think they did that kind of grudgingly. The *istD didn't allow non A lenses at all with the original firmware. The default may not be the best for you, but it is likely the best for most users, and they have to think about that.
