Actually, the shelves are for all of the tubs of hardware that have been piled 
in the front half of the shed, making it impossible for me to get to the tools 
that I'll never have the time to use.

Seriously, the problem is that I have been using the tools, and the hardware, 
but it's been so crammed into the front half of the shed that half the time I 
can't find what I need despite the fact that I already have one, or two, or 
three of them.

Good luck.  Where is your house in relation to the river?  It seems that 
usually the garage is, if anything, between the house and the road, which would 
make me expect that the house is between the garage and the river. Or at the 
very least, next to the garage.
