Check out Neal Slavin's photography

He did a book (maybe more than one) of posed photos - small to large groups, the book, I think, was mainly on working people... but included the staff of Julian's pool hall on 14th street, now gone,where I used to shoot a bit.

I thought some of these were captivating but generally abhor formal shots - especially if I have been asked to shoot them :-)

My grandparents had a  handful of these mixed into their collection of
family snapshots.  Never thought about the process of getting those
photos before, though.  Interesting...
