You should know that the jpeg you're working with was produced by fussy editing. I created three different layers, one for the sea, one for the sky and one for the dock and islands. I sharpened the resulting composite as much as I could, (in the original full size image), without causing a haloing at the edges and while still keeping a more or less photograph look, reduced it in size and then tried to optimize in the reduced pixel count.
one thing to note is that sharpening is size-specific; maybe your sharpening was done at the web size, but if not, consider resharpening at that size (or with a larger radius at the full size); i don't have a super-sophisticated technique, i simply resize in Aperture to about the web size i'm aiming for, then sharpen to eye
