i think you mean Silicon Beach ...
but i remember SGI too, quite a bit better, actually; reminded me of using a
little purple Indigo for prepress work, and i still have an one of the early
SGI LCD monitors
... i used Digital Darkroom some around 1989-90 when i was doing magazine
production on a Mac Plus; for the most part we didn't have any scans to work
with, though (we pasted stats & halftones onto our artboards with galleys from
a laser printer, or had the printer shoot halftones and strip them into
rubylith boxes) so i recall feeling like it wasn't very useful; i used MacPaint
quite a bit more
