Shel, Thanks for the reading material. It is quite interesting. I am noticing that certainly the pitch and duration of the sound has a large effect on our perception of loud.
It would be interesting to see a new study that also took into account the sound of built-in winders - likely louder than the mirror/shutter of 35mm cameras.
