You know it's working 'cause you can see the hubs go round Cotty. Couldn't do that with 8-track! :-) My reel to reel is like a big ol' cassette machine. You can see it working too. :-) Actually, I use the shotgun on the camera, and a small Sony stereo mic (that is too hot) that I dangle below the camera, recording to a Sony 707 Mini-Disc recorder where I can control the volume somewhat. Synching is not a terrible problem as long as you make a visual and audible mark at the beginning of each scene and use yor iMac to put it all together. As you know, if you keep the scenes short, synch doesn't have much chance to get noticibly off. I will be using my Sony 8-channel board and mini-disc recorder to get the audio down to 2 or 4 tracks, depending. I've only practiced so far, but I will be recording 40-60 hours in January and March, which I'll be editing down to 2 hours for distribution to all my McAllister relatives from Texas west to the coast.
