To expand this discussion a bit, there are other achromats that you
may wish to consider.
The Raynox 150 is a +4 diopter
and Raynox 250 is a +8 diopter.

Double element achromats (like the Raynox under discussion) are
superior to single element close-up lenses. Bargains can be found
(I've had good success with finding the earlier Canon achromats (240D
and 450D) at bargain prices. The 48mm size is great for using with
49mm filter sized lenses with a step-down ring.

Even though I have a GREAT macro lens (Vivitar Series 1 90mm f2.5 AKA
"Bokina") with 1:1 adapter it is still fun to play with these
achromats to cheat down on the minimum focus distance of great lenses
like the Tele-Takumar 200mm f5.6 (which has a 49mm filter size, by the
way).
