To expand this discussion a bit, there are other achromats that you may wish to consider. The Raynox 150 is a +4 diopter and Raynox 250 is a +8 diopter.
Double element achromats (like the Raynox under discussion) are superior to single element close-up lenses. Bargains can be found (I've had good success with finding the earlier Canon achromats (240D and 450D) at bargain prices. The 48mm size is great for using with 49mm filter sized lenses with a step-down ring. Some reference links: http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/eosfaq/closeup2.htm http://www.angelfire.com/ca/erker/closeups.html http://fuzzcraft.com/achromats.html Even though I have a GREAT macro lens (Vivitar Series 1 90mm f2.5 AKA "Bokina") with 1:1 adapter it is still fun to play with these achromats to cheat down on the minimum focus distance of great lenses like the Tele-Takumar 200mm f5.6 (which has a 49mm filter size, by the way).
