speaking of old-school i have a gorgeous minimalist Advent 300 receiver in
the garage that i feel should replace the RX-1100; it's strong enough to
drive the Cantons to desk listening levels, and i don't need video, and among
other things it has a very nice phono preamp
I had an Advent 300 for many years & yes it was a great minimalist receiver -
but alas I could get no one to repair it - but I sure got my money's worth out
of it.
i am no whiz, but i would guess that the Advent 300 would be all discrete
components and sort of simple to fix; haven't needed to find out since mine
still works right good
