Hi Shel, For painting the plywood-- 1) First prime it with a oil based primer 2) Sand it with 120 grit sandpaper when dry (the following day), dust it off, then apply an oil based gloss black (alkyd) 3) Sand it again (when dry) with 220 grit sandpaper, dust it off and apply one more coat of the black. On the finish coat run the paint through pantyhose to get any particles out that accumulated from the first coat. Bill is right about the gloss and alkyd. The higher the gloss, the better it holds up. For brushes, just get some disposable ones. The finish coat might need to be thinned a little with a few drops of paint thinner, so get a stir stick at the paint store. When done, flies will break legs trying to land on it.
