Perfect observation! Here's a silly thought... Rather than mounting the LCD based on the SLR or rangefinder model, where it really doesn't work so well, why not mount it on the TLR model? Hinge it so that if you want to look at it at arms length in front of you, rather than arms length down, you can. I suppose the down side is that would make the camera too deep.
