I have very dim memories as a kid in Montreal of riding on the trams (as they called them there). Somewhere around 1960 they ripped them up.
Toronto is one of the rare North American cities that resisted the urge to "modernize". I type this post on my mobile heading into town on the Queen Street car! :-) Our rolling stock is hopelessly outdated now but later this year we start taking delivery of new Bombardier streetcars. Anyway, thanks for the kind words and thanks to everyone else who looked and commented. Two things that I'm not likely to see here are snow and streetcars (trams as we call them). At one stage Sydney had one of the largest tram networks in the world but in the 1950s the politicians decided that buses were the future and ripped the entire system up. We now have a small and relatively new light rail line to the inner western suburbs and there is continual talk of reinstating trams to the centre of Sydney, but I'm not holding my breath. > We had a light snow a couple of weeks ago (now all melted) and I > thought the Long Branch Car looked kind of nice heading through it: > > http://knarfinthecity.blogspot.com/2012/02/snow-on-lakeshore.html > > Hope you enjoy. Comments welcome. Nice wintery feel to that, enhanced by the graininess of the image. -- Cheers Brian ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Brian Walters Western Sydney Australia http://lyons-ryan.org/southernlight/ -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
