Yup, it's a green laser. IIRC 20mW The only problem being that the beam is too narrow when it hits. I need to do something that'll just spread the beam a tiny bit. > > That second shot: wowza! Thanks. There is definitely a lot to learn about this technique, maybe Dave can chime in with what he has learned. The most obvious mistake I made in my first attempt (in the associated set) was that I didn't set the angle up so that the pattern was against something dark. I also need to learn optimal aperture for doing this, which needs to be balanced with exposure for the sunset, if there's one in the background. The lighter I grabbed was having a hard time last night. I found that the 00 steel wool was easier to light. When going for big circles, I had to spin the steel wool faster, which burned it faster, and made it tend to fly off the chain if it wasn't tied on right. I can see advantages to supplemental lighting with a flash, but that could lead to a depth of field game if you're trying to focus on the background. > > > On Mon, Feb 13, 2012 at 2:50 AM, Larry Colen <[email protected]> wrote: >> I joined my friend Candice for another Salton Sea trip this weekend.
